The Cocoon - composed by Mairtin O'Connor
This is first in a series of piano arrangements
of my favourite melodies. Máirtín O Connor, from Galway, is an incredible accordion
player and composer of beautiful tunes. I
have always loved his work and this piece appears as a melody in his book Inside the
Box Outside the Box, Original Compositions, published by Arcona. When he heard it, the composer wrote: “Beautifully played, Annette. Many thanks, Máirtín”.
This arrangement can be played by students who have reached Grade 3 or above and is dedicated to Ethna Collins, without whose support I might never have been a musician. Listen to / watch the arrangement here: http://bit.ly/Annette001

Alio - composed by Pascale Rubens
2nd in a series of piano arrangements of my favourite melodies. Pascale Rubens, from Belgium, is an incredible musician and composer of beautiful tunes. She plays with her husband Toon Van Mierlo as a duo called Naragonia. I discovered their music while attending a dance festival (Le Grand Bal) in France, they have a huge following in the European folk dance scene (known as Bal Folk). This mazurka appears as a melody in their Naragonia Tune Book, self-published.

Valse à Mary
- composed by Bernard Loffet RIP
This is fourth in a series of piano arrangements of my favourite melodies. Bernard Loffet dedicated his life to the traditional music and dance of Brittany. He was an incredible man of many talents, instrument maker, sound engineer, musician, dancer, and composer of many beautiful tunes. I first heard this piece when it was played as a memorial to him at a French bal shortly after his sudden death in 2018.
I asked his widow, Cathy, and daughters for permission to make this arrangement and they gave me their blessing. When Cathy heard it, she said: “I like Valse à Mary played like this, very much, and I think Bernard would have liked it too”.

The Beauties of Autumn
- composed by John Brady
5th in the series, I stumbled over this piece on a CD by the Irish band Dervish, originally written by John Brady, a flautist from Co Offaly who died in 2014; his daughter, Attracta, gave me permission to publish this arrangement.
When she heard it, she said: “Your rendition is lovely; my father would have loved that style of music. He was particularly fond of slow music played with feeling.”

Robin's Waltz
- composed by Jon Swayne
6th in the series - Jon Swayne, is a musician, composer and instrument maker. He plays with various groups, and was a founding member of Blowzabella.
When he heard it, Jon wrote: “Thanks for your delightful arrangement of Robin's Waltz. It has lots of great ideas in it and I especially like the accompaniment figures in the A music the third time through. The best of luck with your project.”

7th in the series, a Traditional Irish Jig and popular Set Dance
As St Patrick’s Day celebrations were called off in Belfast, Dublin, New York, Boston, I was drawn to the piano and this rather solemn version the dance tune emerged: I received the following comments:
“It actually brought a tear to my eye as it was so expressively played.” “Love this Annette x” - “Beautiful” - “a lovely soft and sensitive arrangement of St Patrick’s Day.” - “Beautiful Annette, thank you.” - “This is really beautiful, Annette, so poignant, gentle and heart breaking, xxx.”
While the PDF download of the file is free, I have also had requests for hard copies too. You can listen to / watch the arrangement here: http://bit.ly/Annette007 -

She wrote this tune around Thanksgiving 2019 – in gratitude for all her music friends, she posted it online and asked them to return their version of it to her, it was with great pleasure that I set to task the following day.

Willow Tree (5-time waltz)
– dedicated to Hilary Bracefield RIP
9th in a series of piano arrangements . The original tune was composed as a jig (the Willow Express) by Chris Shaw, Deux Sans Frontières went on to transform this jig into an asymmetric waltz. It was from their recording that I began to arrange it for piano. When I asked Chris to review my arrangement he said: "I love how my rip-roaring 48-bar jig has now turned into such dreamy meditative music".

CD Reviews
Mary Fox - All Set Project, Magheralin, N Ireland
"This CD of traditional solo step dance music is visionary and inspirational, encouraging you to step out with Annette at your pace! Mark’s music compliments Annette’s teaching and the CD provides unlimited opportunities to advance your solo step ability!"
Joe McGuiggan - All Ireland Traditional Dance Champion, Step Dance Teacher & Performer, Derry, N Ireland
"Step with Annette is an excellent addition to the step dance music portfolio. There has been, up to now, a distinct lack of music resources for the old style step dancer. This CD will fill a gap and be welcomed by both dancer and tutor alike.
A nice selection of jig, reel, slip jig, hornpipe, and set dance tunes are played at both practice and performance speed.
Mark's solo fiddle is perfect accompaniment, allowing the dancer to bring out the rhythm of the tune. The CD provides me with a very accessible resource for my weekly dance class."
Kieran Jordan - Teacher/Dancer/Choreographer
Boston, Massachusetts, USA
"The Step with Annette CD is a great collection to support any old-style Irish dance class. Mark Prescott plays a selection of sweet and steady tunes that dancers will find easy to dance to at both slow and lively tempos. With a nice mix of set dances and other tunes, Annette and Mark have created a useful and pleasing recording for step dancers at every level."
